Kevin Lee Mosele was on a British Airways flight when he allegedly became agitated about an hour after departing from London. Flight attendants found bottles of wine and whisky near his seat.
A Hawaiian man erupted in violent hysterics on a recent flight from London and now is facing serious jail time for claiming he had a bomb and planned to open an aircraft door, federal agents said Wednesday.
Kevin Lee Mosele, 20, of Kihei, Hawaii, was arrested at LAX airport Monday and later charged with one count of interference with a flight crew, an FBI spokeswoman confirmed.
Mosele was on a British Airways flight from London to Los Angeles when he became agitated about an hour after takeoff and started acting erratically, an affidavit reviewed by the Daily News states.
"I am going to set off a bomb," he allegedly yelled, according to the affidavit.
Flight attendants found two small wine bottles and two small whisky bottles in his seat area that did not match the alcohol sold on the flight, investigators said.
"I bet I can open the door," he allegedly told one flight attendant as he stalked around a galley area.
"Is that a challenge? I think I'm gonna do it," he allegedly said when the attendant didn't respond.
After receiving authorization from the captain, four male flight attendants restrained Mosele with metal handcuffs and secured him to seat 81A with "webbing," authorities said.
"I am going to f------ kill you," Mosele allegedly threatened and he resisted his restraints and yelled and spit at flight crew for the next six hours, the affidavit says.
A passenger told investigators that the captain warned Mosele to calm down or he would have to "drop you off in Iceland," the affidavit says.
At one point, a flight attendant issued a written warning to Mosele, and he tore it up, the affidavit claims.
Mosele faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison if convicted.
He made his first appearance in federal court Tuesday afternoon and was freed on a $10,000 bond.
He was ordered to appear for an arraignment August 4.
Mosele allegedly told investigators that he had consumed a couple of beers and a couple of wine beverages during a nine-hour layover at London Heathrow International Airport prior to boarding the flight.
He allegedly admitted that he recalled saying he was going to "blow up the plane" and also find the flight attendants on Facebook to kill them at a later date.
