SISTER IN LAW

My new sister in law is an incredible person, hope she had a lovely birthday this week and enjoyed her treat from her new husband. She is adored by all our family and i love her to bits like a sister, seems like i have been in this position before but this is so different.

Can't wait to see my brother and wife soon in their beautiful new home which is almost finished.

I have so much to look forward too in the next couple of weeks, buying  a second property, Pontins Bluecoat reunion, visiting the North East, i cannot wait.

British Airways is searching for two stewardesses who apparently filmed themselves stripping off and washing each other in a video which was then posted online.
The clip has been seen by thousands of YouTube viewers amused by the pair's X-rated antics.
BA has launched an investigation into the footage in a bid to determine whether or not the two women are in fact employees of the airline.

I was heading to work this morning leaving home at 0315 for a 0450 report, as usually the roads were pretty empty and when i reached the M25/A217 Junction 8 i was stopped by the red traffic lights, as i sat there waiting for them to change i heard a strange scraping noise, looking in my mirror i saw a car had overturned and was rolling towards me, i went through the red light to avoid being hit and parked up ( as pic) on small concrete verge between road to reigate and slip road onto M25.
No one else was around so i immediately called 999 and asked for fire, police and ambulance, i ran to car which was upside down on its roof, the contents of the car were all over the road as were many parts of the car, the driver was silent and i could see a baby seat in the back. I immediately started to shout " Can you hear me" " are you ok" i heard grunts and groans and as i knelt on the ground to see who was inside as the roof was so mangled it was hard to see but i established there was only one man and no on else. I was shouting " GET ME OUT GET ME OUT" and i said help was on the way and he needed to stay still as i was aware of possible neck or spinal injuries. ( thanks to my airline training)
My main concern was the rate the traffic was travelling towards the slip road and how obscured his vehicle was so i ran back to my car to get my EasyJet hi-vis, and stood in the road diverting traffic into the other lanes otherwise there could be a multiple pile up. It took 20 minutes for the police and other services to arrive, i called them at 0345 and they arrive at 0405, i also called crewing and crew dispatch to explain.
The police arrived and i spent 20 minutes in the police car giving a statement of events and confirming i would be happy to attend court should i be needed, the police reference i was given was P13299606.
It was raining, i was soaked, with kneeling on the ground my trousers were dirty and wet but i was pleased the driver was now on his way to hospital and i could head to work, i arrived at car park at 0440 and bus to Concorde house was 0445, i arrived in time to operate my SKG flight but i was shaking after the ordeal and needed to pull myself together.
I had a sweet drink and wrote down what had happened while it was fresh in my mind and waited for a CPM, by 0630 no one was in attendance so i handed by statement of events to Katy on crew dispatch and said i was heading home as had been replaced on my flight.
I drove passed the crash scene on the way home and even though it had all been cleared up it made me realise how lucky i had been that morning.

Flying has disillusioned me.

After 26 years in the air i am considering giving it all up, i do not know if i am making the right decision or not and will probably regret if afterwards.
I have considered and applied for many different positions but online applications are a poor way of deciding whether a business likes you or not, they do not get to meet you or see your personality or manners, they just judge on what they read in a basic online application.
I also know if i take another job, that when we move back to the North East i will be then unemployed and having to seek work, but i do like the buzz of attending interviews, they keep your mind active and up to speed on the type of questions potential employers now ask, it really does keep you on your toes.
If anyone reads this and knows of anyone or a business that needs a Butler i think this is where my future career would lie, somewhere in that field....WISH ME LUCK!!!

BA in the new again

Twitter user buys promoted tweet to complain about British Airways

British Airways has been forced to apologise to a disgruntled Twitter user, after he bought a promoted tweet to complain about the airline losing his father's luggage.

Twitter user Hasan Syed, who uses the handle @HVSVN, bought the promoted tweet through the site’s self-service ad platform. The tweet simply said: "Don't fly @BritishAirways. Their customer service is horrendous."
He followed this up with a series of messages criticising the loss of the luggage and the delayed response, vowing to continue running Twitter ads until British Airways resolves the problem.
The cost of the promoted tweet was not revealed, but Marty St. George, senior vice president of marketing at JetBlue Airways said Syed could be setting a new trend by buying a promoted tweet slamming a brand where they had a bad experience.
Promoted tweets are designed for use by advertisers who want to reach a wider group of users or to spark engagement from their existing followers. They appear at the top of relevant search results pages on Twitter, in search results for a Promoted Trend and, in some cases, on users' timelines.
In the first six hours since the tweet was promoted, it had garnered over 25,000 impressions on Twitter, according to aviation marketing consultancy SimplyFlying. This excludes coverage on popular blogs likeMashable, which first reported the story.
BA responded to Syed's complaint on Twitter this morning, apologising for the delayed response and asking for Syed to direct message (DM) his baggage reference.
"We would like to apologise to the customer for the inconvenience caused. We have been in contact with the customer and the bag is due to be delivered today," said a British Airways spokesperson.
Syed is not the first disgruntled customer to take on an airline via social media. Dave Carroll and his band, Sons of Maxwell, took on United Airlines in 2009, when their video "United Breaks Guitars" went viral. The video details how United failed to reimburse Carroll after his guitar was broken in 2008.
Meanwhile, a complaint letter sent to Richard Branson, complaining about the food on Virgin Atlantic planes, also went viral in 2009, eliciting a phone call from Branson himself, who thanked the author of the letter for his “constructive if tongue-in-cheek” email and invited him to select the food and wines for future Virgin flights.

Pilot abused his position at British Airways to molest hundreds of girls at African orphanages while claiming he was doing charity work

  • Simon Wood, 54, feared to be one of UK's most prolific child sex offenders
  • Investigators in Africa say they fear there could be hundreds of victims
  • BA now faces a lawsuit by victims who claim the airline failed to protect them

A British Airways pilot used his position to abuse hundreds of vulnerable children in African schools and orphanages, the Daily Mail can reveal.
First Officer Simon Wood, 54, claimed he was carrying out charity work for the airline while molesting scores of young girls during his stopovers in Africa.
Dressed in a bogus captain’s uniform, he would use the airline’s good name – and even BA branded toys and colouring books – to lure children out on day trips and to five-star hotels used by the airline, where he would abuse them.
British Airways is now facing a hugely damaging lawsuit brought by his victims, who say the company failed to protect them from his horrific abuse.
After abusing children for 15 years, the £100,000-a-year pilot was finally stopped when he was charged with separate child sex offences in the UK.
Days after appearing in a court in London last month charged with the offences, Wood threw himself under a train.
Prosecutor Peter Zinner said: ‘The prosecution say that Mr Wood was a deeply depraved and corrupt individual who had used his ability to fly to other parts of the world to commit sexual offences against children.’
Officials in Kenya have identified at least 15 children, all believed to be girls aged five to 11, that Wood abused – and say they fear there are hundreds more.
As British Airways launched an international investigation into the ‘shocking’ claims, questions were asked over why the pilot – who was arrested after indecently assaulting an eight-year-old girl in 2000 – was ever allowed to work near children.'
Prosecution sources said they feared the pilot could prove to have been among Britain’s most prolific sex offenders.

During his 16-year career with British Airways, Wood chose unpopular routes in and out of East Africa, using his stays there to prey on vulnerable children in the slums.
Wood’s first known contact with children in Africa came in 2001 when he began visiting the Nyumbani orphanage in the Karen area of Nairobi, the Kenyan capital.
It was the first centre of its kind in Kenya to accept only children infected with HIV, and managers said they had received no complaints of abuse against any of their children.

At Easter 2002, he was among 20 crew members from two BA flights who volunteered to spend the holiday period with the Kenyan youngsters, showering the orphanage with presents, medicines and donations raised at home.
He told the UK news agency the Press Association, which covered the trip: ‘We play, sing, organise activities and generally entertain them. We become very close to the children.’

In fact Wood was using the prestige of his pilot’s uniform to gain access to children for the purposes of abusing them.
Much of the most recent abuse happened during stopovers in Uganda, his normal flying destination, from where he would cross the border to Kenya to target slum children and orphans.
Officials in Kenya say, he claimed he was a member of ‘BA’s community relations programme’ when approaching orphanages and schools.
If managers complained about his behaviour, Wood made official complaints to the police that the staff involved were stealing from the children’s homes, and at least two managers were arrested over his allegations.
Wood first came to the attention of police when he was accused of an indecent assault on an eight-year-old girl. He met the girl while volunteering for Diabetes UK, escorting young children on a trip to North Yorkshire in 2000.

Wood was arrested over the sex attack, but – in an echo of the Jimmy Savile scandal – the Crown Prosecution Service ruled there was insufficient evidence to charge him. He was allowed to keep his job at BA and, in an indictment of the vetting system, continued his charity work with children.
The mother of one young victim told the Mail her daughter was abused at a five-star hotel used by BA crew in Nairobi.
She said that after loaning her money Wood duped her into letting him take the five-year-old girl to the Nairobi Intercontinental.
‘I trusted him completely because he seemed so good and so kind. I trusted him with everything, even with my daughter,’ she said.

The girl, now 14, is struggling at school and has become tearful and withdrawn. She has threatened suicide to escape the shame and misery Wood inflicted.
When suspicions arose about Wood in Kenya, one local school contacted a British law firm, whose staff travelled to Kenya with a view to beginning legal action against both Wood and British Airways.
But when they realised the extent of Wood’s sexual offences against the children they passed the matter onto British police.
Following a tip-off, UK officers re-arrested him on July 18 in the BA staff car park at Heathrow over the 2000 assault.
When they searched his laptops, they found explicit images of African youngsters. During a police search of Wood’s car several school uniforms were found, Westminster Magistrates’ Court was told.
Prosecutor Mr Zinner said: ‘His computer was seized and evidence was obtained to show that he had visited various paedophile websites.’
Wood appeared at the court  on August 16 charged with possessing indecent images and indecently assaulting an eight-year-old schoolgirl.
He was granted bail on the condition he surrender his passport but two days later he threw himself under a train near his home in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.
Prosecutors announced last Wednesday that as a result of his death, they were halting the case.
Jennifer Swiddon, representing Wood, said that her client intended to deny all offences against him prior to his death.
British Airways 'Shocked and horrified'
It was revealed in court that police suspected Wood had abused more than 100 African children. A well-placed legal source said it was now feared that Wood had targeted hundreds of girls during his BA career.
Before his death, Wood had transferred £64,000 to his legal representatives in Africa.
Detectives suspect he was planning to use it as ‘hush money’ to buy off his victims or to open an orphanage in Uganda where more youngsters could be targeted.
The families of Wood’s brothers Nicholas, 52, and Anthony, 51, said it was ‘a difficult time for the whole family’ and declined to comment.
UK-based law firm Leigh Day have confirmed that they are acting for the alleged child abuse victims of the late Simon Wood in Kenya and are working with the police to determine quite how many children were abused and the extent to which this extended to victims in the UK as well as Kenya and Uganda.
Martyn Day from Leigh Day said: 'We are currently investigating how Mr Wood was allowed to have such access to these Kenyan children and also the extent of the allegations against Mr Wood in relation to his actions in the UK.'
